Spouse or Common-Law Partner Sponsorship – In Short

Canadian citizens and permanent residents can sponsor their spouse or common-law partner to immigrate to Canada.

Eligibility

  • Spouse: Married legally recognized spouse.
  • Common-Law Partner: Living together in a conjugal relationship for at least one year.

Sponsorship Process

  1. Eligibility Check:

    • Ensure you meet the criteria as a Canadian citizen or permanent resident to sponsor your spouse or partner.
  2. Submit Application:

    • Complete and submit the sponsorship application with required documents to Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC).
  3. Processing:

    • IRCC assesses the application, including proof of relationship and eligibility of both sponsor and sponsored partner.
  4. Approval and Immigration:

    • If approved, the sponsored spouse or partner receives permanent residency and can move to Canada.
