Other/Lonely Family Member Sponsorship

Under exceptional circumstances, Canadian citizens and permanent residents may sponsor other family members who are considered “lonely” or in need of care and support.

Eligibility

  • Exceptional Circumstances: Typically applies to orphaned siblings under 18 or other relatives who do not have any close relatives other than the sponsor.

Sponsorship Process

  1. Eligibility Assessment:

    • Demonstrate to Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC) that the family member meets the exceptional circumstances criteria.
  2. Submit Application:

    • Complete and submit the sponsorship application with necessary documentation to IRCC.
  3. Processing:

    • IRCC evaluates the application, considering the unique circumstances and relationship details.
  4. Approval and Immigration:

    • If approved, the sponsored family member receives permanent residency and can move to Canada.
