Dependent Child Sponsorship – In Short

Canadian citizens and permanent residents can sponsor their dependent children to immigrate to Canada.

Eligibility

  • Dependent Definition: Children under 22 years old who are unmarried and financially dependent on their parent(s).
  • Adoption: Adopted children can also be sponsored if the adoption meets Canadian legal requirements.

Sponsorship Process

  1. Eligibility Check:

    • Ensure the child meets the definition of a dependent and other sponsorship criteria.
  2. Submit Application:

    • Complete and submit the sponsorship application with required documents to Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC).
  3. Processing:

    • IRCC assesses the application, including proof of relationship and eligibility of both sponsor and dependent child.
  4. Approval and Immigration:

    • If approved, the sponsored dependent child receives permanent residency and can move to Canada.
