The Start-Up Visa Program is a Canadian immigration pathway designed to attract innovative entrepreneurs who can contribute to the Canadian economy by starting a new business. Here are the key details:

Eligibility Criteria

  1. Qualifying Business: Applicants must have a business idea that is supported by a designated Canadian venture capital fund, angel investor group, or business incubator.

  2. Commitment Certificate: Obtain a Commitment Certificate from a designated organization indicating they are investing in or supporting the business idea.

  3. Language Proficiency: Meet minimum language requirements in English or French (CLB 5 in speaking, listening, reading, and writing).

  4. Sufficient Settlement Funds: Have sufficient funds to settle in Canada, unless they are currently supported by a designated organization.

Application Process

  1. Application to Designated Organization:

    • Submit a business idea to a designated Canadian venture capital fund, angel investor group, or business incubator and receive a Commitment Certificate if selected.
  2. Application to IRCC:

    • Submit an application for permanent residence to Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC) within 12 months of receiving the Commitment Certificate.
  3. Processing and Approval:

    • IRCC assesses the application based on admissibility requirements, including medical and security checks, and makes a decision on whether to grant permanent residence.
