Self-Employed Persons Program

The Self-Employed Persons Program is a Canadian immigration pathway designed for individuals who have relevant experience in cultural activities, athletics, or farm management and intend to become self-employed in Canada.

Eligibility Criteria

  1. Relevant Experience:

    • Applicants must have at least two years of relevant experience in cultural activities, athletics, or farm management that they can use to contribute to Canada’s cultural or athletic life or farm management.
  2. Intent to be Self-Employed:

    • Applicants must intend to establish a business that will create employment opportunities for themselves and make a significant contribution to cultural activities, athletics, or the agricultural sector in Canada.
  3. Selection Criteria:

    • Applications are assessed based on factors such as experience, education, age, language proficiency, and adaptability.

Application Process

  1. Submit Expression of Interest (EOI):

    • Interested individuals must first submit an Expression of Interest (EOI) to Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC) indicating their interest in the program.
  2. Invitation to Apply (ITA):

    • If selected from the EOI pool, applicants will receive an Invitation to Apply (ITA) for permanent residence.
  3. Submit Application:

    • Complete and submit the application for permanent residence along with required documents, including proof of relevant experience and financial means to support themselves and their family members.
  4. Processing and Approval:

    • IRCC assesses the application, conducts medical and security checks, and makes a decision on whether to grant permanent residence.
