Family Sponsorship – In Short
Family sponsorship allows Canadian citizens and permanent residents to sponsor their family members to immigrate to Canada.
Who Can Be Sponsored?
- Spouse, Partner, or Conjugal Partner: Married or in a common-law relationship.
- Dependent Children: Including adopted children.
- Parents and Grandparents: Under specific conditions and quotas.
- Other Relatives: In exceptional circumstances, such as orphaned siblings under 18.
Sponsorship Process
Eligibility Check:
- Ensure you meet the eligibility criteria as a Canadian citizen or permanent resident to sponsor family members.
Submit Application:
- Complete and submit the sponsorship application with all required documents to Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC).
Processing:
- IRCC processes the application, which includes reviewing eligibility of both sponsor and sponsored family member(s).
Approval and Immigration:
- If approved, the sponsored family member(s) receive(s) permanent residency and can move to Canada.
